A rare sunny August evening at Mt Hawke a very picturesque ground and a scene of many previous Methigion defeats. I must admit to being a little nervous about Mt Hawke given their recent narrow loss in the Mining league final.
Batting first (useless tosser again), the nervousness was increased by the sort of initial run rate even Keaton Jennings would have been frustrated with- 23-3 off 10 overs. Thereafter VIOLARIS(31) injected some much needed ‘smacking it about’ and persuading Hutton (28) to run occasionally who also engaged in some, at times elegant ‘smacking it about’ also. A quick 10 from RVL at the end including a 6 which nearly hit Dave’s car had us respectably 97-6 off 20.
Low sun, a pink ball, some very uncharacteristically competent fielding, and excellent accurate bowling all combined to seal our second win on the bounce. Mount Hawke were 25 short after 10 with 9 down- extraordinary!
Highlights include(not in any particular order):-
2 beautiful swinging deliveries from Duncan to take their 2nd & 3rd men.
4-12-4 from Farrar- surely his best figures this season.
2 excellent catches from Duncan at mid off from Dave’s bowling.
A quite brilliant diving mis-field for the drone from RVL at mid-on.
The ‘tikka-takka’ boundary manoeuvre from Dave and Mike on the long off boundary.
Superb run out when Violaris/Hymas (great debut), combined to runout the dangerous looking Simo on 15.
Only selected highlights of course everyone played their part and I personally wallowed in the glory of it all as the sun set and the field set itself (just stand in a circle already-so much easier).
Other bowling:- Paterson 4-9-2, Edwards 3-6-0, Violaris 4-9-0, Van lingen 3-15-2, Aru 2-9-1.
So- two in a row- what can stop us now as we face St Erme next Wednesday.
