It has been said that it’s not the score that goes down in history but who won. In the context of today’s game that’s maybe no bad thing!
The tone was set when a certain member of our team turned up at the wrong pitch. (I’m sure he won’t mind me mentioning this as long as I promise not to mention his bowling figures, the two dropped catches or the duck however!) Trengilly batted patiently for the the first half of their innings (scoring at under 3 an over off the first 15) but then clearly thought better of that, and decided to let loose. This they did with some gusto, finishing on 213 for 9 off their 40 overs. There were some decent Methigion bowling performances, the pick of which was D Farrar with 19-3 off 9 and Cooper with 35-2 off 9. Interestingly 8 of their wickets fell to catches.
The Methigion innings that followed is probably best brushed over (there were 4 ducks and 2 batsmen out for 1) but suffice it to say that only 2 Methigion batsmen reached double figures – Davis 20 and Walden 11no. We finally finished all out for 71 – that’s only 142 runs short of our target! I’m reassured by Dave that it’s not Methigion’s worst result but I’m guessing it’s not far out of the top ten.
Back down to earth with a bump after our victory last week but nonetheless an enjoyable afternoon. Special thanks go to Mrs G for the fine effort with the tea!
