MethigionCC September 10, 2018 Reply St. Mawgan, always lovely in the Autumn sun. The plan was meet for lunch at 12.45 in the Falcon, so we were a little surprised when Bharat brought Yasir along at 13.40 and promptly ordered fish and chips! Luckily we won the toss and batted first. Farrar (16) and Bebb (19) added 37 for the first wicket. Bebb was just hitting his stride before being of victim of Gripperitis, no not even the opposition were quite sure what imaginary set of stumps the ball was meant to have hit, only Stableforth it seems knew… There then followed a 73 run partnership between Kuruppu (36) and Adams ( 66), this ended bizarrely with Kuruppu run out of a no ball. Stableforth ( 22) briefly rolled back the years with a flurry of boundaries.Just for old times sake there followed a mini-collapse as Methigion were bowled out for 217 ( or 216 depending which book you looked at) off 35 overs. A fine opening spell by the Methigion bowlers saw St.Mawgan struggle over the first 10 overs .Kuruppu took 1 for 15 off his 5 overs , but particular mention should go to Bharat who bowled 8 straight overs, 3 maidens and took 1 for 11. A fine afternoon if we add in the catch he took ( and forget the duck).Methigion were able to use 8 bowlers, and all were generally economical. Mention should go to Aaron Spear who took 2 for 11 off 5 overs having not played for many a year, and to Somen ( 5-0-19-3) who generated not insignificant pace, and demonstrated why Sketchers are not usually warn to play cricket. St. Mawgan were bowled out for 114 off 38 overs. Thanks for all those who turned up and played for us.
