We had high hopes going into this match as the opposition had been one of our previous conquests in the mining league – it turns out that either they had been putting in some serious practice since then or that we had an extraordinarily un-Methigion like performance that night for alas it was not to be repeated!
We were asked to bat and made fairly slow work of setting a total. This was not helped by Mt Ambrose taking the pace off the ball on what was already a very slow wicket, however we eventually set a target of 83-5 from our 20 overs, the highlights of which were Clarke (final year med student and stand in for Widdison) 30 no and Walden 22
The reply started off promisingly with an equally slow scoring rate however once the second and third batsmen for Mt Ambrose got their eye in there was only ever going to be one result – a runners up spot for Methigion. Haines bowled his usual tight line (0-19 from 4) but Cooper put in the bowling performance of the evening with 1-24 from 4
Despite a relatively comprehensive defeat we still remain mid table.
