MethigionCC May 24, 2018 Reply Batting first Perranporth set about our bowling in traditional fashion smacking us about a fair bit though some tight early overs from Farrar(3-0-8) and Adams (3-0-20)helped keep them to 70 ish of 10. Masterful catch dropping kept their 13 year old at the crease however he did in fairness play some beautiful late cuts & nudges to keep their score looking more than healthy. Then followed a couple of unusual run-outs bringing their ‘big guns’ to the crease to despatch anything full to the boundary. Reasonably economical from Gripper (1-0-9), Crook(3-1-20), Quick(2-0-11) & especially Patterson(4-0-29). Yours truly(3-1-34) found the knuckle slower ball bouncer difficult to find and paid a fairly heavy price. So a presumed unassailable target of 142 was posted. Quote Di Farrar ‘Methigion never win chasing’ 24/5/18. Then followed surely the most extraordinary batting performance a Methigion side have every put together. Bebb(11) & Hymas(32NO) running the fielders ragged making 43 off 6 then productive cameos from Farrar(5) & Crook(7) left us at 53 off 9 and a victory looking unlikely. The game turned on the Blake(10), Quick (30NO of 12 balls!). Suddenly we were in with a shout. Adams played excellently off their best bowling for 20. During which Gripper took his own life for the team with about 6 an over off the last two required. EFC then accompanied Hymas’s return hobbling up and down at significant speed whilst Austin beautifully got us to 143 with 4 balls to spare. Mano of the match Oli Quick with an innings that completely turned the game. Very ably supported by all. Much emotion followed and the poetry is still expounding on WhatsApp. Well I never.
