This game was our last of the season at Boscawen Park, and as it turned out, our only outing in August.
We lost the toss and were put in to bat on a slow, and rather green wicket. The Crusaders, it would appear, are a rather adept bowling side, as the scoring was slow going, and the wickets tumbled with some regularity. Gripper’s new found role as opening bat however appears to suit him as he made 19 and Widdison was on very good form with 26. The middle order, it must be said, were not exactly firing, but fortunately Van Lingen and Arumugam bludgeoned us up to a semi-respectable 81-7.
When I said earlier that The Crusaders were a good bowling side, I forgot to mention their rather fine batting attributes as well – their opening bat scored 53 before retiring, leaving the following 2 batsmen to fairly easily knock off the runs. All in all a fairly sound defeat by a side that clearly engages in that most un-Methigion like activity – practice!
