A sunny but distinctly chilly evening saw a great effort from Methigion to win our first Mining League match. A fast outfield combined with some fine hitting mean’t that of the 32 scoring shots played by Methigion, 17 were boundaries (16 fours, 1 six) – the words “lusty and “blow” spring to mind!
Top scorer’s on the night were Gripper 15, J Farrar 18 and perhaps most explosive of all Lockyer 39 (accounting for 8 of the 4’s alone) leaving a total of 107 ao off 17 overs.
In reply, Mount Ambrose got off to a good start and when they got to 36-2 off the first five overs, it looked like the match was only heading one way. The old adage “catches win matches” soon put pay to that however and an energetic fielding performance (4 catches and a run out) saw Methigion home after a Mt Ambrose collapse left them all out for 66 off 15.
Three bowler took two wickets a piece – D Farrar 2-20 Lockyer 2-8 Davis 2-15
By my reckoning that puts Methigion at the top of the table – that’s a thought worth savouring.
