The first pink ball match of the season at Boscawen. Despite a low tide the pitch had been prepared with added pudding mix. Fielding first it soon became clear that the perfect delivery was one which didn’t quite make it to the stumps. Saurabh (4-1-19)and Robin(4-1-8) exploited the conditions well. It was hard going for the pace attack who proved a little more expensive and Falmouth made a steady 117-4. Fielding highlights include an excellent run-out from Hutton using the rapid access sigmoidoscopy technique and a sharp catch from Eas at silly mid on.
The chase was on and Bebb & Dommett looked in command opening their accounts. Little was Dommett to know that hitting the ball didn’t exclude him from being given out LBW- this set the run rate up early on and we never quite caught up despite an excellent 30 from Tiley in quick time, with 22 from Bebb and 16 from Robin. In the end we were 14 short after our allotted 20, just sneaking past the 100 mark (103-9). Important to document Hutton, Edwards and Van-lingen getting out to small children. Two homegrown lbw decisions again demonstrated our ruthless honesty and general misunderstanding of the mining league rules (lbw doesn’t count-particularly if you hit it).
So a respectable Silver. Onwards to Perranarworthal away where Dave is Captain in my absence (not deliberately planned- I promise). Hoping for an improvement on 32 all out- what could possible go wrong?
